The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
My first read from SJM! I was so excited and nervous at the same time. I thought I wouldn't like it, but I loved it and I was heartbroken by the end :(
Action-filled and delivered what it promised.
The Assassin’s Blade ft. A Throne of Glass series talk
I had been so curious for years what this A Throne of Glass series is all about. But I was so nervous to invest in it because of the disappointing YA books (Arc of a Scythe series) that I last read after I had just came back from a long reading break.
And I tend to buy book series by box, because they are really hard to complete if you’re going to buy them individually. The fist few reviews on goodreads were not good and one of my favorite booktubers do not like it. So I was really torn in the middle about this one.
This is my first SJM book series so I was really, really hoping that I was not wasting money and time in this.
But finally, I took a leap of faith and spent around 70 dollars on the paperback boxed set.
And it was a good jump.

The Assassin’s Blade in a nutshell:
This happened prior to the events of A Throne of Glass series--and having read ATOG by the time I am writing this review, I think reading this before starting the series would be good since it would help you get to know more about Celaena and why she acts like that.
TAB has five novellas focusing on five different missions of Celaena together with her fellow assassin, Sam.

The Review
I honestly think that the writing is better here than the one in A Throne of Glass. The stories were action-filled! My favorite has to be the second one: The Assassin and the Desert. I think it was the novel in where you could really get to know the lead character Celaena.
(SPOILER, please skip the next paragraph)
I absolutely adored her and Sam. And I knew that they weren’t going to end up together because I know that she was going to be with someone named Rowan? So I was like, what on earth is going to happen? How and she and Sam are going to separate now that they are so in love with each other?
And then it happened. They separated. Forever.
IT BROKE ME.
I can’t say more about these novellas, but if I had to read Celaena call another man “handsome” as if there were no other adjectives to use... HAHA. That’s about the only complain I had about this one.
