Thanks, I hated it. It’s my fault because I went in blind. The audiobook started at the prologue and the Kindle ebook started at the story, so I missed the Author’s Note. Still, it was an important story to tell and KR delivered. She didn’t shy away from the ugliness of DV, nor did she handle it with kid gloves. It was real. With on the page depictions of DV, I was triggered some, but still needed to finish Iris’s story. Now, August I had an issue with. The man is almost perfection, but it really bothered me that he went from waxing poetic about who she was as a person to daydreaming about fucking her in the middle of conversations in the second half of the book. It was just kind of jarring to feel like it jumped from a women’s fiction about DV survival to an erotic romance from one chapter to the next.
