I appreciate how Crewe carefully considers different topics throughout this novel: class and it’s impact on the ‘bravery’ of Henry vs John and Edith vs Angelica, the impact of John’s choices on Catherine (his wife) and how she must live by them, and lastly the turn of a new generation where women are educated (Edith, Angelica and John’s daughters).
