The Science of Stuck: Breaking Through Inertia to Find Your Path Forward by Britt Frank

informative reflective fast-paced

3.5

I'm not a big self-help book person but I did enjoy this book and found it very accessable and useful. I appreciated the fact that Ms. Frank was up front about the disagreements that come up in the science of mental health and trauma. She was clear that this was a "cliff notes" of her readings and techniques that she finds successful in her practice and her own life. She also wrote the book so that chapters could stand alone so if you are stuck in one area you could just read that chapter. I particularly liked her use of checklists and bulletpoints. Each chapter ended with the main takeaways, a Dos and Don'ts chart, and 5 minute challenges for you to practice the lessons from the chapter. I enjoyes her descriptions and cartoons of emotionally unskilled families and the chapter on how to be human. The book is well referenced with footnotes and index.
