I don't want to forget this book. I learned about it from Emmie. I've wanted to read it for a long time. I started it yesterday when I worked from home after returning to work to get my keys the day before. It was the only thing I read yesterday. I stand by what I said about it feeling like an anime movie in novel form. I needed this.

Started rereading this on my birthday but never made it past like a quarter. Started rereading it again today (06/25) because I got the sequel from the library. The founders are at Sophie's place up North. Mathias didn't go in person so I listened to this while eating lunch (pizza from that one place) and taking the train/bus home early. I didn't think I would cry but I ugly cried at home while doing NYT games.

It didn't hit me as hard as the first time for sure (seeing as I never expected him to die). It also didn't make me want to live as much as it did last time, but I'm grateful that it still made me cry (I was worried I'd be immune by now). I realized that the first time I listened to this novel I imagined it as an anime in my mind, but this time I saw the faces of the actors in the movie (only the best friend really, hers is the clearest face in my mind).

There were more changes from the book to film adaptation than I recalled. I still prefer the book (of course), but I appreciate the movie more as well I think (but still only the performance from the best friend). I don't think I'll ever forget this novel enough to appreciate it how I did the first time (not the same way I completely forgot Six of Crows). It's unfortunate but it's preferable to having never read it.
