An Accidental Affair by Eric Jerome Dickey
2.0
I picked up this book because I wanted to read a romance novel written by a black man. I was expecting black characters and black love, but from what I can tell every character in the book was white and foreign. Then the story itself was crazy, it was all sex, drugs, and videotape, which inevitably led to murder. Not one ounce of romantic love. But if this book is indicative of Dickey’s writing style, then here is what I learned from a black male romance writer: the writing is extremely descriptive. Like, I now know the makes, model, and engines of several high end foreign cars. The writing is blunt and explicit he is telling readers exactly what is happening and what parts are being used, nothing is subtle or left to the imagination. Scenes move quickly, but because of the detail it’s a long read. However he providers with a complete story which I appreciate, but I doubt I will pick up another book of his, this was not for me.
