Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

5.0

The title of this book, Eliza and Her Monsters, is truly a synopsis of the book itself. If makes reference to the monsters she writes in her web comic, Monsters Sea, and the monsters in her life: crippling anxiety, parents/family opinions of her, the cruel kids at school, and almost everything else around her.

I saw this book mentioned in a Booktube video and it the description really hit a cord with me. I wish I could remember who's it was so that I could go back and thank them. It is truly a fantastic story, as well as a representation of anxiety/depression. TBH some of this actually hurt and upset me to read because of just how close to home this hit for myself in my high school days. I wish I had had this book 12 years ago, when I think it really could have done some good for me.

I plan to come back and write more about this book once I have physically read it, but I did want to end with a note to web comic readers out there. If you are enjoying a story please like and comment on every page even if you don't have much to say other than "How cute" or a crying face emoji. This applies to those fanfics you enjoy, blogs or YouTube videos. Show the creators you love that you sincerely appreciate the hard work that they do, give them encouragement and understanding. Most important of all please be kind to out way the trolls, so creator can see more love than hate.
