I’ve never head the crack epidemic talked about with such humanity. Ramsey’s writing in When Crack Was King brings the reader both knowledge and empathy. His choice to follow narratives of specific people framed in the context of the historic events that shaped these narratives, is a brilliant method of compelling and educational writing.
Graphic: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Drug abuse, Racism, Sexual violence, and Addiction
Moderate: Rape, Gun violence, Panic attacks/disorders, and Murder
