book: 4.25
If you are at all interested in TR, this is a vital read. Morris goes through the birth of TR and his upbringing. Morris showcases the hardships TR went through as a very sick child who nearly died multiple times and the tragedy that he went through with the death of his first wife and mother (on the same day!). The book ends right before he hears the news that President William McKinley has been assassinated; thus entering into his presidency.
writing: 2.75
Edmund Morris is a great writer, in terms of depicting details and storytelling, however, at times it does feel like you are going down a rabbit hole and it takes quite a well for the point to be made. When these instances occur it can be a bit discouraging to continue with the book. Other than these instances, it was a great read.
