The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
5.0
For a slow paced, feux memoir-like relationship saga, this was engrossing.
Once I got going, I struggled to put it down. I sort of loved how there was always a plot-twist carrot dangling in front of me the whole time.
I feel like Taylor Jenkins Reid did a great job of capturing the myriad and complicated (read: messy) forms that relationships can take.
It's really got me thinking about today's Hollywood elite. We feel so connected to 'celebrities' because we see them on our screens every day. They are with us, in our homes and in our lives. But how well do we really know them? If we admire them and adore them, how much of this is because of a narrative we have been fed - just one big performance? I'm sure much of the publicity cover-ups and 'scandals' of Evelyn's fictional world - and surely much worse - have happened in these industries and continue to happen today. Though I like to think that every day the world is becoming a more loving and accepting place.
