I like a lot of the general ideas in this book, however, it starts off by saying that it will not be a book of motivational platitudes and then turns into a volume of motivational platitudes supported by Greco-Roman philosophy.

It's motivational platitudes for people who read "Infinite Jest" in a coffee shop so they seem smart.
