The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz

4.0

I wanted to like it. I really did. However, no matter how hard I tried, it just felt like someone imitating Stieg Larsson. I get it, though. It's not Larsson writing. Lagercrantz does an adequate job of picking up the feel of Larsson's characters, but much like the song "Fred Jones: Part 2" by Cake:

Fred gets his paints out and goes to the basement
Projecting some slides
Onto a plain white canvas
And traces it, fills in the spaces
He turns off the slides, and it doesn't look right
Yeah, and all of these bastards have taken his place
He's forgotten but not yet gone

Lagercrantz has effectively traced the characters and the style of Larsson, yet when you take it as a whole, it just doesn't live up to what Larsson created.

I would have been much happier had the Millennium series stayed a trilogy.
