As someone who loves Stranger Things and Max's character, this book is one that I loved. Recounting S2 from Max's POV added deeper context to her story in Stranger Things. Reading about her life in California before moving to Indiana and having to deal with Billy after initially idolising him was a cool detail to read about and in some ways added a hint of Sympathy for everything he endured with Neil. Even when Billy broke her best friends arm, she still chose to find some form of restoration in Billy's character. It was also sweet and endearing looking into Max's constant worries for her mum in abusive relationships, even contemplating running away which was something I never realised. Max's story is a very conplicated one but it is a book I loved reading. I did thoroughly enjoy this book and looking deeper into Max's story was so lovable.
Moderate: Domestic abuse
