Truly very very spooky. I thought the fishy townfolk were the stars of the show and the ending was very enjoyable. Ironically, I found the chase scene the dullest as it was very repetitive. It's interesting to see how Lovecraft embodies the uncanny and the other in his novels. Very gripping and thrilling to read in terms of gothic novellas.
Afer having more closely examined this text and sorted it into quote banks, I find that whilst Lovecraft may be a bit heavyhanded with his... quite racist and eugenicist descriptions, he utilises an interesting variety of gothic motifs in combination with his own hallmarks of the cosmic horror genre to make quite an interesting narrative. It was arguably even more interesting on a second time round.
