Death in a Gilded Frame by Cecelia Tichi
5.0
I recently started, well since 2021, reading more historical fiction for myself. I can honestly say when I was reached out to about Gilded Frame I was not sure what to expect since I hadn’t read a lot of novels set in that time period. I was instantly hooked by Cecelia Tichi’s writing. I quickly became engrossed in the story and characters.
I will say while this is part of a series, which I fully intend to read, I believe this can be read as a standalone. I particularly liked the mixture of seeing Val trying to fit into and adapt to high society and how Roddy is helping. Val was a wonderful character I quickly gelled with and Roddy was a close second. Val is almost like a younger Miss Maple and I adored that.
If you are looking for an historical mystery with a wonderful plot, lavishly realised glimpses into the past of high society and memorable characters you need look no further. I have already recommended this to a few historical fiction fans and I will continue to do so.
