Lost Among the Living by Simone St. James

4.0

This novel has many elements that appeal to me - WWII, missing persons, murder mysteries, crazy people, dysfunctional families, unnamed illnesses... But so many of those things aren't what they seem.

Unlike another book I read recently, I like that this book promises the paranormal and delivers. It doesn't shy away from it by finding scientific explanations. Even most of the unlikable characters have good (if misguided) intentions. Still, there were a few characters I couldn't make my mind up about at the end and that may have left me more unsettled than the haunting.

I read a lot of WWII stories so it was refreshing to read something with a different angle.
