This was an incredibly interesting story and so unlike the books I usually read. I think I was drawn to it because I grew up close to Spiro and remember visiting the mounds on field trips. Reading this book reminded me of home.
The book was well written and very imaginative. I was most interested and invested in Jim and Tawny’s story (and the cultural elements), and I found myself pushing through so I could read more from their perspective. My mind drifted a bit when I read Mikayla and Gavin’s chapters. Also, I wish my science background was a bit stronger because I honestly struggled to follow along sometimes. Either way, this was a different read for me, and I’m glad I took a chance on it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Doubleday Books for the advanced copy in return for my honest review.
