When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons, Funny Stories and Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown by Kenan Thompson

lighthearted reflective medium-paced

4.0

I don't usually care for celebrity books, but Kenan Thompson was definitely a memorable part of my youth pop culture knowledge, having watched All That! growing up.  This was actually a really nice book to listen to.  I loved the way he reflected on the differences between his childhood and now his daughters' and I loved the way he spoke about the impact of Black churches and religious community in his life.  A lot of the things he talked about he talked about with a lot of care and introspection, even when addressing the fall from grace of one of his idols growing up, Cosby.  There were parts of his life/career that I had no idea about, probably because I wasn't paying attention to entertainment news much, but I didn't really think of this book as some name droppy tell all or "look how cool my life is" book.  It was reflective on the things that influenced him and his career, and what he wants out of life.  I feel like I have a new found appreciation for Thompson that I definitely didn't have before listening to the audiobook.
