The story of a girl who moved to NYC in her youth in 1940s to live with her eccentric aunt who runs a playhouse… Seems like the most interesting premise right? Sadly Vivian’s character manages to be boring for 70% of this story. Not only boring but also entitled and irritating! I know we don’t like to like characters but first person POV and the tone of the whole thing is just not enough to even like hating her.
Moreover, the more I expected the story to get a crescendo, the more twists got smaller and weaker for me. Maybe this sort of historical fiction is just not for me but overall, it is a 2.5 star rating from me.
