Ethan King (King) is the 40-year-old reluctant mafia boss of Camden, England. King became boss when his brother Henry Sr was killed. Now, his sister-in-law Trudy was murdered, and everyone thinks King killed Henry Sr and Trudy to become the mafia boss. Twenty-year-old Olivia was once engaged in an arranged marriage to Henry Jr. However, when Olivia’s father saw how volatile Henry Jr. was becoming toward Olivia, he tried to break off the engagement. Only he disappeared instead, so Olivia faked her death and ran. Olivia thinks King killed her father and Trudy, so she comes back to town seeking revenge. King kidnaps Olivia to protect her, and the book describes their obsessive, possessive, instalove relationship and how they go from being enemies to lovers. It was a beautiful thing that Olivia and King were able to trust in each other, especially after all the reasons that had to mistrust each other and find love again.

The male and female narrators had pleasant voices and were enjoyable to listen to. The audio quality was exceptional. The narrator’s voice quality and character distinction, pacing and rhythm, and emotional delivery were all on point. The story is set in London, and the narrators having British accents made the book even more enjoyable. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and think the excellent narration added to the experience for me.

Rose has written a gripping story that sucks you in from the first page and keeps you enthralled until the end. The story pulls readers in with tension, plot points, and character building. King’s character is complex with many layers. Yes, King could be a vicious and dangerous mob boss, but he could still find tenderness and patience with Olivia. Although the story can be brutal at times, it is all in context with the story line. I enjoyed the witty and snarky banter between the main characters. If you are looking for a well-written, dark, age-gap, mafia romance full of spicy scenes, family drama, and redeemable characters, I would recommend this book for you.
