More interesting to me than the original "Wizard of Oz" story/ies, not always fantastically written and can drag at parts, but the story and characters and interesting and engaging enough that this can be allowed when brief. Much more adult than the stage musical and I appreciated the development of the relationships and characters, as well as the refusal to "sugar coat" situations as a book for a younger audience may have done.
