This is a cute, lighthearted read about a curmudgeonly professor studying fairies on a remote Scandinavian island.
The fairies were definitely the highlight of this book, adding an eery darkness and mystique to what was otherwise a pretty light read.
The autistic-coded FMC was sometimes frustratingly dense, although the 1st person journal narration was quite witty. The smidgeon of romance was cute.
While I did genuinely enjoy this book, the writing felt clunky and stiff in parts. The pacing felt a little slow and formulaic at the beginning, and a little too rushed at the end. The villagers were cute but forgettable.
I can see why people love this book. For me it’s a fun interlude between heavier reads.
