The Cloisters
by Katy Hays
Took this book away with me on holiday at the end of August and I did not put it down! I am a real sucker for anything dark academia-related, with historic settings, and bonus points if it’s in the centre of NYC (this book has all three) so it was a perfect summer read for me.
I must admit, before reading this, I didn’t know much about spiritualistic topics such as tarot, but this book changed my opinion rapidly, and now I want to know more!
The theme of academia addiction and the idea of how we can - or cannot - control our own fates was really clever. Hays has the ability to make the reader feel on edge, but not too much, just enough to tell us that maybe this isn’t as innocent as it seems after all. And by the last two chapters, the twists and turns kept on coming!
Overall, an engaging read, and I look forward to seeing what Hays does next!
