The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas

3.0

The Magic Thief is the story of a boy who does everything right, pretty much the first time. He is placed in the story so that everyone can learn from him. He is annoying to others (obviously), but he is right so often as to probably be always right.

I didn't like the book (as is also obvious), but my boy did. I assume that this is because it fulfills the childhood fantasy of being right all the time when the grown-ups aren't. I just didn't believe the viewpoint character was ever really in danger. So, no tension, just silly little set pieces. I think that the book would have been better told from the viewpoint of the new master trying to figure out who this blessed child is, rather than from the viewpoint of the child who does no wrong (even when they do).
