klenarto 's review for:
The Iron Queen
by Julie Kagawa
Actual Rating: 3.8
I gotta say this was my favorite in the series by far, because the last 50 or so pages made me cry my eyes out.. It was also hard to put down.
Meghan Chase was EXTREMELY dense/stupid/ditzy. Pick one. There was just so many moments I wanted to shake her and tell her to think. But Grim did that for me which was ok but I would have liked a smarter protagonist instead of a cat telling her what she should have thought herself.
And THIS was by far the most annoying thing about this book:
"His hands folded over mine, lacing our fingers together, and we stood like that for a moment, breathing in tandem, me listening to his heart through his armor" (pg 195).
"Heart pounding, I crossed the room and lay down next to him, feeling his arm wrap around my stomach, pulling me close. I felt his heartbeat against my back and closed my eyes..."(pg 294).
And there are many many other examples of this. In fact, after reading the second book I said I would keep a tally of how often it happens in the third. I counted 41 times that she mentioned something about heartbeats, heart pounding, heart stopping, etc.
This may be nit picky to some, but I find this so distracting while reading because no where did I read that Faeries have super hearing or have extra loud heartbeats. So when I'm reading and fully engrossed in this faery world and suddenly she says things like "I heard his heartbeat" that are physically impossible it brings me out of the world she created and distracts me. It makes for an extremely frustrating read.

Especially when she released Ash from Knighthood AND banished him away from the Iron Kingdom.Meghan Chase was EXTREMELY dense/stupid/ditzy. Pick one.
