This book is both heartbreaking and triumphant in moments (more of the former, admittedly), and it is always staggeringly honest. It was difficult for me to read at moments, reminding me of my own past that I usually choose not revisit, but it was worth it. Conley’s narrative is important and one that so many either can relate to or need to read in order to understand, and his portraits of the people around him — particularly his mother — are often beautiful
