Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving by Pete Walker

1.0

I really hated this book.

The speaking in absolutes about CPTSD being only abuse acquired in childhood from parental abuse or neglect is just absurd. Excerpt from the Cleveland Clinic on CPTSD:

"Examples of chronic trauma include:

Long-term child physical or sexual abuse.
Long-term domestic violence.
Being a victim of human or sex trafficking.
War.
Frequent community violence.
While CPTSD is often associated with chronic trauma in childhood, adults who experience chronic trauma can also develop the condition."

Every noun in this book is gendered and it HURTS MY SOUL. WHY?! We can use neutral language of they/ them. It exists for a reason. There were also sexists ideas about specific gender roles. I can't...

I listened to this ENTIRE book thinking maybe I was missing something given how high the ratings are. All I got in return was information that the author REALLY wanted you to buy his other book (he mentions it at least 4 times) and he himself suffers from CPTSD specifically from trauma acquired from his parents.
