Bad Luck Bride by Laura Lee Guhrke
4.0
Thank you Hachette Audio for providing me an early copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.
This was a cute little read. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series (this appears to be the third installment) but I didn’t find I had any difficulty reading this as a standalone.
Kay and Devlin were *this* close to eloping back when she first came out into society, but things didn’t work out, and feelings were hurt, and said *almost* elopement, ended up breaking up her second engagement, so now, at 32, she’s hoping the third time’s a charm…but oh, no, Devlin’s back with a new fiancé, and yeah she’s mad at him, but he’s also still super dreamy, and super into her, so what’s going to happen??
There’s a lot of tension between these two right from the start, as they just can’t help the pull between them. And anytime they’re alone…that tension really heats up!
Miscommunication is definitely a heavy component of the bitterness between them in the beginning, but I felt it was used in a very realistic way.
I really loved how everything was wrapped up in the end; it definitely had me feeling 🥰 when all was said and done.
Overall, a great little Victorian histrom to cozy up with.
Audiobook notes: Full disclosure, when I saw that Marisa Calin was narrating, I immediately put in my request for this one. She is a huge fave of mine, and she has SUCH a great voice for histrom. Even though the story was dual POV with a single narrator, I never had any issue keeping straight who’s POV I was in at any given point, which I think could really be tied to the writing, as well.
What this book is giving:
✅ Historical Romance
✅ Victorian
✅ Second Chance
✅ Two Failed Engagements
✅ Engaged to Other People
✅ Older MC’s than in typical Histroms
Rating:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
🌶️🌶️½ / 5
