I've followed Jessie Cave's doodles for years on Instagram, and love the way that she tells stories through her art. This simple, descriptive style has translated to her writing and finding myself falling into Ruth's mind was really intense (and often heartbreaking) but so well done, too. This is such a frank and raw exploration of grief, and I found myself crying for approximately half the book. That being said, there was hope in SUNSET - it's as much about how hard it is to be a flawed human who builds relationships with other flawed humans as it is about grief and I loved going on this journey with Ruth. Firmly one of my favourite books now, and I can't wait to see what Cave does next!
