The Dead Ex by Jane Corry

4.0

The Dead Ex is a really interesting read because the women who do not seem connected are connected and it’s hard to figure out how. At the end of part 2, you do and it’s a doozy.

We start out by seeing Vicki’s point of view in the present. Her husband, David has left her for his secretary and she lives in a seaside town doing aromatherapy massages. At first, I’m looking at this and I’m thinking, oh great, another thriller that centers around a jilted ex. But I was so totally wrong.

Scarlet, who is an 8-year old girl who has been drug running for her mother, gets caught and has to go into foster care. Which is a nightmare in and of itself.

This book uses the slow burn to titillate and torment you. It felt too slow to me because I was ready for the action of it all but I see the point of it. Because when the fast points hit, they hit hard.

I was not ready for the reveals, the twists. It was shocking, frustrating, confusing in the best ways.

4 stars out of 5.
