The Hit List by Holly Seddon

dark mysterious tense fast-paced

Marianne, grieving since the death of her husband Greg in a road accident, decides as it nears the anniversary of his death to go through some of his things including his computer. On there she finds an email to his ex-girlfriend telling her he really needs her, but more disturbingly, there's a link to the dark web and Marianne finds her name on a hit list. She knew things with Greg were rocky before his death, but was it really bad enough that he wanted her killed?

The story is told from the view of several characters: Marianne, Greg, and Sam (the 'hitman'). The first half draws in the reader, keeping you guessing what's going on, but the second half loses its way a little. I found some of Sam's narration meanders to be honest and I wanted to get back to the main plot. The ending is also rather over the top. It's a book that grips you for the first read but I'm not sure how much potential for re-reading there is.

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Orion Publishing Group/Trapeze, for the opportunity to read an ARC. I am voluntarily giving an honest review.
