This was a surprisingly solid read and I’m glad to have finally gotten to the audiobook! I loved the academia setting and magical system created by the author. Magical ink that opens magical doors? Say less.
I thought Maeve was unique and very likable, a tad stubborn but watching her grow and accept help are big factors in her character development. We follow her along as she slowly uncovers the mystery of her father’s death and events leading up to the collapse of the aforementioned magical traveling doors.
The pacing was fantastic, giving just enough breadcrumbs to unravel everything. The secondary characters added a fun cozy element to the story. Tristan is the love interest and I kinda adored all of their interactions! Nan is the overly enthusiastic roommate, her antics were some of my favorite bits.
Narrated by Barrie Kreinik in a lovely accent, her delivery set the mood of the book just perfectly with a touch of whimsy.
Recommending to fans that enjoyed books like The Spellshop, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia series, Divine Rivals, or even just books with magical schools!
