This is a very well-written entertaining book on the history of Prohibition. Since this is my husband's period of interest, I thought I knew almost everything worth knowing about it but there was quite a bit I didn't know and this book presented the characters and events of the pre-prohibition period through the post-prohibition period quite well. Prohibition transformed our world and although we are no longer a dry country, the rest of the changes wrought by the period still resonate throughout. The book is also quite objective. Okrent gives both Drys and Wets their due and doesn't take sides in his presentation.
