The writing reads like poetry - it is so beautiful and makes you want to go back and re read every other sentence. While every character was thoroughly unlikable, some more than others, I still loved them and rooted for them in some kind of cheering on the underdog type of way. I learned a lot about rural America and how the economic collapse impacted these families, and I loved how the author explored the differences between the types of people who stick around to see through their family history and those that gtfo as soon as possible. I ended up really loving this book although it got tough to keep up with at times.
