Rashomon and Seventeen Other Stories by Ryƫnosuke Akutagawa

4.0

Japanese culture and literature especially has always interested me and the 2020 Olympics were a good excuse to pick up an obscure (at least to me) Japanese author and delve in. The translator isn't lying when he says that Akutagawa's 2 masterpieces are 'Hell Screen' and 'Spinning Gears'. Hell Screen is haunting and Spinning Gears is devastating. The evolution of his work is fascinating, as well as the diversity off his stories. A good stepping stone into the more niche Japanese works for me.
