Salem's Lot by Stephen King

4.0

First horror book I have ever read! Not only that, but this is the longest book I have ever read at this point. 450 pages may not be a lot to many people, but it is an accomplishment I am proud of nonetheless. As for the book! In actuality, I probably give this 4.5 stars. Let's start with the bad parts. I hated how many characters there were. Way too much going on. It was incredibly slow for the first 125 pages because of this. Getting to know every little citizen in the town. However, the main characters are OUTSTANDING. Ben Mears is a wonderful protagonist. His chemistry with Mark towards the end is also fantastic. I loved both those characters tons. Jimmy, Calahaan, and Matt were also all extremely well written and fun to follow. Barlow was a great antagonist, and I enjoyed all the scenes we had with him, even though it took almost 300 pages to finally reach them. Overall, I really did enjoy this book other than a few things. I am very excited for the movie coming out later this year.
