I loved this first volume so much and cannot wait to get my hands on more. This story is set in a world with magic - although that part was not explored deeply at all in the first volume - that also highly reverse the written word, so much so that they have a library that's supposed to hold every text ever created, staffed by librarians tasked with finding, preserving, and repairing these works. The main character, a young boy for most of this volume, does not fit in with everyone around him due to his mixed heritage which give him light hair and skin and "long" ears. He loves reading and gets to go to school because of his sisters sacrifice working three jobs in the slums to pay for his education. The presence - or rather mysterious absence - of a magical grimoire brings some of those librarians to his town which forever changes his fate. I cannot wait to read more.
