Covered in Coal is a tense, heartbreaking journey from loneliness and hopelessness, towards finding family and love.

Throughout this book, i gasped and literally grabbed my chest. My expectations for plot lines were almost never correct (and I love that), and I wanted to strangle some characters multiple times. I loved the concept of the storyline, while it follows a standard romance the plot line, the background was unique for me and I enjoyed that.

The story itself is fast paced, which is fine, however I struggled to read at times as it also felt rushed. There were certain parts throughout the story that could have been thought out clearer and expanded on; I feel as though we got explanations that were only half there, and left more questions than answers - there is the potential this will be cleared up in ongoing stories, but, it didn’t feel that way when I was reading it. This is the main reason I was not able to provide a 4 or 5 star rating.  I truly believe this book to could be a 5 star read, if only with a little more time spent examining the plot, exploring the characters and editing the chapters.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
