I'm really glad I read (listened to) this. It's an incredibly important story, composed of clever carefulness.
It's the "what-if" story we don't consider. What if I turned down this path? What if I grew up in that town? Who would I be today if I didn't meet this person or went to that school... If my older brother sold drugs to make ends meet? if I hadn't been admitted to the military academy?
It's the story of Wes Moore, a newfound journalist, and army veteran born in Baltimore to poor parents in the hood and Wes Moore, a convicted criminal born in Baltimore to poor parents in the hood doing life in prison for killing a police officer. The only difference is, one was given a chance.
A heartbreaking call to action about those in the world that just need a push, a sacrifice, a loving home. A touching memoir about one name, two fates. The Other Wes Moore is a means of understanding those who've gained success and those who didn't think it possible to begin with.
