Hamster Princess: Harriet the Invincible by Ursula Vernon

4.0

Obviously a book for early readers, and not intended for me, but I read it anyway because I'm a fan of the author, and I was curious. I love the premise here: imagine if young Sleeping Beauty heard the prophecy that she would prick her finger on a needle and die at age 16, and she said "Wait, so according to a powerful magic prediction, I can't die until I'm 16? Awesome, I'm going to take up cliff-diving and ogre-fighting."

Also, imagine if she was a hamster and rode around on a battle-quail.

The books in this series are quirky, silly takes on familiar fairy tales, but this one gave me the most joy because of the cleverness of that premise. Way to make evil magic work for you, hamster princess.
