Isnt it exciting when as a reader you pick up a very unexpected book and end up loving it? I was having a difficult month of reading in January this year and was getting disappointed with all my reads. Until Elatsoe came along.
I have my acespace book club to thank for this recommendation. Else I wouldnt have ever come across this book.
I found this YA fantasy/mystery/horror story to be absolutely refreshing. And what was even better was to live in a world where being asexual wasnt questioned. It was just accepted. Just like every other interesting power this world has. The author cleverly introduces us to the America where Elatsoe/Ellie lives, where the supernatural and humans live side by side. Ellie is a Lipan Apache and has the power to raise the dead. A seemingly innocent accident where she loses a loved cousin, sets the story into motion and gives you chills, which felt even better than some of King's horror novels!
I loved all the supporting characters in the story - no one was over the top. Everyone seemed so human, even with their supernatural abilities. The dry humor injected throughout the story cracked me up. And it was a refreshing experience to read about the indigenous Lipan Apache tribe from an ownvoice author as well.
I would highly recommend this book, if you're looking for a fun, fast and spooky read.
I wish the physical copy of this book was cheaper and available in Indian stores. I wouldve loved to own the physical copy of this book. But since it was too expensive on Amazon India, I had to buy the kindle version of the book.
