Prophet Song
by Paul Lynch
eurrrrrrrgh this is a difficult one to rate. The story could be SO gripping at times. I don't want to spoil the plot (to my three goodreads friends lmao) but the author did a great job showing how quickly civil war can unravel, and why it isn't so easy to pack up your bags and leave. Hindsight is always 20/20! This made the book frustrating to read at times (aka so many tragedies could have been avoided), but I guess that's the whole point!!
I can't rate this book higher because the writing style really got to me. The absence of quotation marks for dialogue was SO CONFUSING. Constant time jumps/ setting jumps without a proper paragraph break - what was this stylistic decision???????????? It did not add to the tense atmosphere of the book - it just made ur gorl confused lol.
