The God of Endings
by Jacqueline Holland
I love this book so much. I don’t read vampire books but I found this book on a fantasy book list at my library so I wanted to give it a shot. What is so great about it? It’s hard to explain. It’s very atmospheric, sad and haunting. The main character, Anya/Collette (I listened to audio so sorry if names are misspelled) is turned into a vampire. She lives a solitary life because she lives with this secret that she cannot tell anyone and since she doesn’t age, she has to move periodically and change her name and identity to keep from being found out. The story follows her in her early years through to when she lives in the US as an art teacher. It’s just so sad and beautiful. She struggles to make the right choices and she’s so mad about her circumstances. She feels like she can feel and see Czernobog, the god of endings. There’s a wondering parallel in the book between the child she meets in Alexandria and the boy from her art school. A beautifully executed book. Also the narrator is absolutely fantastic. Definitely recommend this on audio format.
