Summary: Mary Lohan is living in Boston.  Her husband Robert has just died.  She has been living in Boston for 20 years but grew up in Argentina (Buenas Aires).  At the beginning of the novel you know she left a boy or man in Argentina who she refers to as him after a traumatic event.  Mary is returning to he childhood school to evaluate for a special education program her deceased husband started.  As she travels to Argentina her agitation increases.  We find out there are roads around the school that sheet feels will be to painful to go and must avoid.  Meanwhile it appears that the accident happened at train tracks - through a third person paragraph that is built on through the book.  While evaluating teachers at the school who she abandoned after a train accident when he was young.
