A Very Large Expanse of Sea
by Tahereh Mafi
A stunning book, most of which i devoured in one sitting. Shirin’s character development was amazing, not just with Ocean but the dance team aswell. She slowly but surely started to open up to Ocean so sweet to read. Ocean was also dreamy and he was just SO NICE. We love a varsity basketball.
I liked that both Shirin and Ocean had their own personal struggles and also that it was perhaps not the ideal ending for them but a satisfactory one which left much to the imagination. Described the teenage experience really well and the instability and insecurity that comes with been a teen.
The way Shirin was treated was so horrible and the lack of care shown by the various authority figures was heartbreaking to read. This book is a must read for any teenage/adult and it really shows that in a world where you can be anything, be kind.
