The Aquanaut: A Graphic Novel by Dan Santat

3.0

This is a sweet graphic novel about a girl whose father was a marine biologist but passed at sea. Now her uncle (also a marine biologist) takes care of her and is trying to carry on her father's legacy at Aqualand. Things don't go to plan due to greedy investors. Sea creatures from the site of her father's passing use his diving suit to walk on land and things get wild from there.

The messages about family and grief in this quick story are heartwarming. The characters and plot aren't super developed, but that is kind of to be expected in such a limited medium.

My favorite aspect of this was the girl and her uncle's relationship. Very sweet. This is what I wish all families were like.

Overall, enjoyable, quick read with some really heartwarming moments.

CWs: drowning, death of a loved one, and more.
