TW: rape

// review contains mild spoilers, but nothing major //

I might do a full review on my YT, but here are my overall thoughts

What I liked:
-The relationship progression between Max and Jordan made a lot of sense to me and it made me root for them
-I love how Max and Jordan genuinely change each other and for the better. Jordan really becomes more confident in himself thanks to Max and I really loved seeing him grow into himself more.
-I thought it was cool how Max and his mom had a really good relationship and then Jordan and his mom had a pretty rocky one. It was nice to see their alternative families and how it’s changed them.
-I was really happy to see that Max and Jordan aren’t perfect. They both fuck up. They both say and do stupid shit. They both go through hard stuff. It was refreshing to read.
-As someone who’s been raped, I liked (for the most part) how Max’s encounter with Kevin was handled. I really related to how he felt and it honestly felt really awesome to relate to a character as much as I related to him.
-At the end, I like how Max and Jordan changed the dynamic with their friends and were really just honest about the shit their friends did that they didn’t like

What I didn’t like:
-I pretty much didn’t like Pam and Kayla (Jordan’s friends) until the end of the book. They definitely had their moments where I did like them, but for the most part it felt like they weren’t really Jordan’s friend and they fetishized the hell out of him for being gay which I found to be annoying as shit
-As much as I love Max’s mom, I feel like she was being too pushy after he told her what happened between him and Kevin. She was like to HAVE to go to the ER and you HAVE to report him. And like I get that she’s his mom and all, but this happened to HIM. Let HIM decide what HE wants to do. I get that it’s a normal reaction (especially as a parent) to react the way that she did, but it just didn’t feel right as it was never commented on how she reacted wasn’t right (at least in my opinion).

Overall, this was just a really cute gay contemporary romance that really just pulled me out of reality for a few days which was exactly what I needed. I love Max and Jordan so much and this definitely a new favorite book of mine.
