Until Friday Night
by Abbi Glines
I’ve read this a couple of times over the years, and I decided to read it for one last time because I’m unhauling it from my life.
Shocker, it’s just as bad- nay, it’s worse than I could’ve possibly remembered. And that’s saying A LOT considering the dumpster fires I’ve been peer pressured into reading before. I haven’t read any other books by this author, and I’m actually glad because I don’t think I could stomach any more of the writing style or the characters she pulls out of a ‘tiktok country white boy’ scrambler. It was BAD bad.
Ask me why I’ve kept it for such a long time- it was a present from Lord knows who, but I’m no longer allowing myself to feel guilty for getting rid of things that cause me anything other than abundance and love. Until Friday Night may have actually damaged my psyche, so it’s time to let it GO.
Why was it so bad? … How much time do you have?
1- the misogyny is coming from inside the house. Abbi, did he pick you yet? Did he choose YOU? Did he love YOU?
The women in this book are intolerable. Abbi, why does Maggie have no girlfriends? Why are all of the girls in this book described as bitches, sluts, whores, etc.?!? Why do you have to resort to misogyny in order to make your protagonist seem like a saint in comparison? We get it, she’s not like other girls, she’s pure and passive and literally doesn’t talk because of her intense trauma. Congratulations, Abbi, at least you didn’t completely fuck up in how you handled Maggie and her trauma. You just made it a convenient vessel for the psycho male protagonist to dump his problems onto and be healed through the pussy power. Boo corny lame,
