Doctor Mistake by J. Saman

5.0

Doctor Mistake is Grace and Carter’s story as they unexpectedly find love while working (and staying) together.

Synopsis:
Dr Grace Hammond ends up at her best friend’s doorstep after an ugly breakup with her fiancee. Just a tiny problem, she had forgotten that the apartment now belonged to her best friend’s older brother, who’s also her boss.

Review:
The story starts in the thick of the action as thirty-two-year-old Dr Carter Fritz’s brother’s twenty-nine-year-old best friend Dr Grace Hammond, who’s also his resident, is operating upon a pregnant lady. But even among all the action, there is fun banter and Carter full-on crushing on Grace but she has a fiancee.

I love stories with past relationships where the exes were dicks. For me, it makes the happy-ever-after relationship of the book more strong and dreamy. This is the first in the series that I am reading (because I was in a fog the entirety of last year and even though I love the author’s writing, I lost touch with her last year’s releases).

Grace has a medical condition and [a:J. Saman|14923699|J. The best thing was that Grace and Carter already knew each other, in a way, but still, it was funny to see Carter getting all shades of jealous whenever he saw the level of comfort that Grace shared with Oliver.

How is it that the human psyche is so conditioned to giving ourselves away to those who are quick to harm us and so slow to believe and trust those who wish to covet us?

Grace and Oliver, Carter’s younger brother, are besties. And it is in Oliver’s (now Carter’s) apartment that Grace seeks to find solace when life throws her in for a loop. And how wonderful that solace seeking journey is, what with tiptoeing and dancing around the attraction Grace and Carter feel for each other because they can’t be sure about the other, and don’t want it to be a rebound.

Once Grace gets back in her element and leaves her cheating ex behind, the story takes an adorable turn! The way Carter feels he can finally woo her, the way he messes with her and flirts with her, all the time. As well as the perspective Luca provided Carter, to push him in the right direction.

Everything about this story just shined bright, whether it was the suggestive humour that all his siblings heaped on Carter at this one time they all gathered together or the way Grace and Carter finally realised the love they always felt for the other.

Doctor Mistake is one of the best slow burns I’ve read. And when it all comes to a head, when they really get together, even if they still haven’t shared the depth of their feelings with each other, it’s fucking explosive. So many sensual sensations, so many giddy feelings.

Yep. That right there was part of our problem, but routine and comfort lead to complacency.

Kudos to the author for the way she handles their work dynamics. Along with that, she also shows their crazy sides, in how they both want extremes…
I want to chase him down in the hall, corner him, and beat him up while kissing him crazy.

There’s a beautiful epilogue, which is funny as hell when two ob-gyn surgeons are having a baby.

Thank you to Grey’s Promo for an e-ARC of the book.
