Jesmyn Ward turns words into magic ✨

“…and suddenly there is a great split between now and then, and i wonder where the world where that day happened has gone, because we are not in it.”

it’s the way i feel like i am burrowing into the hearts of each character, or they are burrowing into mine. the way, as a reader, i have been allowed to glimpse into an intimate experience of hurricane katrina, the before and the after. the many multitudes of destruction. the ways we can mother and be mothered, how our open wounds don’t heal, the ways we love, the ways we hurt. goodness i loved this novel
